New Dawn by Mary Branson
This film, one of several focussing on the design, production and installation of the elaborate ‘New Dawn’ sculpture by Mary Branson, highlights the role of engineering in the sculpture’s creation. Film developed for the Curator’s Office of the UK Parliament, with music by James Eller and Toby Marks (Banco De Gaia).
To commemorate the British Women’s Suffrage movement, light artist Mary Branson designed an elaborate sculpture. It comprises of 168 glass discs hand-made by Adam Aaronson, back lit by LEDs, with colour changes and intensity synchronised with the tidal River Thames.
It was installed in an arch in St. Stephen’s Hall in the Palace of Westminster and is on permanent display.
Commissioned by the Parliamentary Curator’s Office.
